Change the Flags!

Boy is it nice to be back on top. Unfortunately, we can't rest on our laurels as Lilly looks like he's in for a long road to recovery. Luckily we get Dempster back in his place tomorrow and Geo should be joining the team before too long. The upcoming series against Houston gives us an opportunity to gain some ground while St. Louis has to play the Dodgers. We're already 3 up in the loss column but a half-game means just about nothing at this point.

This morning I heard rumors that the Brewers are trying to steal Jarrod Washburn from Seattle. He's been pitching well of late but the word is that the Mariners are asking for too much and the Brewers just don't have anyone in the farm. I doubt the Cubs pull the trigger on anyone before the deadline but it would be nice to see them ravage the Pirates for Sanchez or Snell as some insurance.

No TiVo...day 7

My TiVo broke about a week ago and I faced the decision of sending it back to the manufacturer for repairs or settling for Comcast's crappy DVR. Tivo's interface has grown on me over the years and besides, I would be giving up the hours and hours of saved programming that I have on my box. That was worth the $50 that I negotiated them down to fixing my machine. They should be sending my new TiVo back to me any time now. Luckily, there hasn't been much on TV lately worth watching and I've been just fine with listening to Cubs games on the radio. Hopefully I won't be without my Seinfeld reruns, Food Network, and History channel for too much longer.

RIP MJ

I'll always remember dancing to Thriller, over and over again, when I was a little kid. I wore that damn record out.

What?

Well that was ridiculous. Thank you, 24 finale, for providing me with exactly zero closure. I never meant to get caught up in this season but before I knew it I was back. The whole Kim Bauer sub-plot was beyond predictable but the whole Tony good/bad guy thing has gotten way out of control. NY Magazine sums my feelings up nicely.

What an Asshole

I'm not really one to bag on Brewers fans, only because they don't really have much to celebrate about. I know that may not mean a whole lot coming from a Cubs fan but Milwaukee is a pretty awful city to call home and there isn't much to root for besides the now Favre-less Packers and the Brew crew. However, I'll be damned if the sausage race isn't entertaining. Viva la Chorizo! Unfortunately, once in a while you read about a guy like this and all that goes right out the window.

Here's a link to his blog with a detailed account of the whole story. It was also mentioned on Deadspin and Sportscenter. Basically the guy makes a hobby out of snagging home run balls and this time he happened to be at a Brewers / Marlins game where he caught Chris Coghlan's first career home run. Then he proceeded to ask for signed bats, autographed pictures, and even tickets to upcoming games. He makes a point that this can hardly be compared to the fans known for auctioning off famous home run balls for hundreds of thousands of dollars, but c'mon, really? I know that if I hit my first home run, the last thing I'd want to think about is paying a ransom to get it back.

Update: Brewer Nation hates this guy too. (tip o' the cap)
